When I put a normal audio compact disc into my computer, Winamp runs, and the CD plays. However, when I put an enhanced CD in, it plays whatever multimedia junk is on the CD, and not the audio tracks. In fact, Winamp can't even play the audio tracks, because the .CDA pseudo-files or whatever they are don't show up on an enhanced CD.
Okay, Servo5678 has set me straight on how to work that out, but the enhancement still autoplays instead of the music, and the concept of enhanced CDs is still a beastly one.
I can play the audio tracks in Windows' CD player, but it doesn't have CDDB access. I rarely, if ever, want to look at the multimedia nonsense on an enhanced CD, so all it does it make it harder for me to listen to music.
I hate enhanced CDs. I'd rather have a first track full of static on all those albums - I could delete it from my Winamp playlist easily, and almost as easily put a program into my stereo or Discman.
It's worth noting that all the enhanced CDs I've bought recently have minimal, shoddy CD player programs within the obnoxious animated features that automatically play. They're still annoying, but it's a nice gesture. |
