and that you'll desperately need of at some point in time. Though not as badly as you might need a
stapler

scissors
.
A hole puncher punches holes in
paper
. The larger ones even punch them with the correct
separation
to fit the type of
binder
that happens to be sold in your
country
. The
single-hole
punchers are painful; avoid at all costs.
Note that the holes punched out from the paper can be used as
confetti
, if the need should arise.
Better holepunchers can typically handle thicker
stacks
of paper.
