Halfbreed, in anthropology, the offspring of parents of different races, though the term is usually confined to the children of one of the white race and a Red Indian. Halfbreeds, specifically, two tribes, one at Red River Settlement, chiefly employed in agriculture, the other subsisting by hunting. The term is used much more in Canada than in the United States.
