Hag"but (?), n. [OF. haquebute, prob. a corruption of D. haakbus; haak hook + bus gun barrel. See Hook, and 2d Box, and cf. Arquebus.]

A harquebus, of which the but was bent down or hooked for convenience in taking aim.
