The largest public park in the United States at 5 square miles and is located at the eastern end of the Hollywood Hills, at the Interstate 210 and SR-134 interchange and bordered by the Los Angeles River. It contains many Los Angeles area attractions including:
- The Los Angeles Zoo
- Travel Town (Miniture Trains One Can Ride On)
- Gene Autry Museum of Western Hertiage
- Griffith Observatory
- As well as 53 miles of trails, bridle paths, golf courses, and a nature museum to name some others.
One might ask why such a large parcel of land was just given to the city of L.A.? It is thought to be haunted and when the last owner, Griffith J. Griffith was unable to find a buyer in 1896 he simply gave it to the city under the terms that it be a park.
