Grail Quest

The quest for the Holy Grail has come to symbolize all quests for a vessel of transcendence, a metaphor for the personal search for second innocence. In King Arthur tales, the grail is both the chalice from The Last Supper and the insight that "The land and the king are one." In The Neverending Story, it's a new name and the insight that the Dreamt and the Dreamer are one: We are Our Stories. In The Last Unicorn, it's finding the unicorns and reconciling Magic and Mortality.
