Getting rid of start menu items

This might be a bit easier, and it's the only way to get rid of some items under Windows NT:

  1. Right Click on the Start button itself.
  2. If you're under NT, and your program appears no matter which user is logged in, it may be part of the All Users profile. (Chances are, it probably is.)
  3. Navigate through the folders until you find your program
  4. Left Click on it once
  5. On your keyboard, hit your "Delete" key.

Simple. While you're in there, you might want to organize things into subfolders. That's the advantage to this method, it opens it up in Windows Explorer mode.

This one works in Windows 98 (SE only?) and 2000. It might work in NT4 as well, depending on which service pack and explorer version is installed. I don't know about XP (apparently it works as well).

  1. Navigate the start menu to the entry you want to remove.
  2. Right Click the entry and select the "Delete" entry at the bottom of the pop-up menu.
  3. Click the "OK" button on the confirmation dialog.
