Geek is chic

Seriously!
Geek is now in, according to a recently discovered newspaper article in my local daily. There's a new geek club on the block, up in Wellington, New Zealand, and people are lining up to get in.

No, I told you before, I'm serious. Think about it, geek is desirable. Not only are geeks (I can only comment on male ones here) very cute, but they're often shy. They don't backstab. Bonus! Actually, an explanation of geek attributes could definately be better explained by my node Brainy People Make the Best Friends. They have a great future earning capacity (eg Bill Gates), so be sure to nab yours now.

OK, so there's that whole stereotype of the geek. Yeah, well I'd be the first to confirm that half of it's true, having experience in the matter of being a geek girl. But doesn't it just add to the mystique, attraction and challenge? They're elusive, the geek breed, are when one is found, all geek hunters (like a head hunter, but not) quickly make a bee-line for the discovered nerd. Most of the ones in my town are already taken.

You still don't believe me? Let's have a look at the evolution of the geek. Ages ago, it was good to be a geek. Check out the gorgeous horn-rimmed glasses in any history text book of the 50s, or an oldish photo. Then, geek was bad. Anything from the 70s to the late 90s will show this. But then, geeks started to be seen in a better light. Geeks were shown having fun (eg the cool geek guy in 'Road Trip'). Geeks had girlfriends/boyfriends. Geeks had lives. Now, geek is chic. Is it really that strange?

Geeks also get the benefit of the doubt. They're a challenge. If anyone who isn't a geek shows up at a party, nobody notices. If a geek, however, makes an appearance, they're the centre of attention. The girls flock to male geeks. I can't speak for the males, but it's probably similar.

Believing me? Good. Geek, ladies and gentlemen, is now chic. It's cool. It's good. It's acceptable (however, many geeks actually don't want to be normal, so this may not be an entirely good aspect).

Geeks of the world, I rest my case. You may now continue with Slashdot and E2.
