Sam and Max referred to themselves as the Freelance Police. They had to do this because no actual police department or detective agency would ever consider hiring a clothes-wearing dog and his hyperkinetic rabbity-thing partner.

The duo has, so far, been featured in a comic book, a LucasArts computer game, and a Saturday morning cartoon. All three are wildly funny.
