1943
and had a politcal career of 32 years, under 10
Prime Ministers
, including
Gough Whitlam
and
John Joseph Curtin
. He was noted for his good humour and long service. Until his death, Fred Daly ran a bus tour of
Canberra
and wrote a historical column for
The Canberra Times
.
I remember Fred Daly fondly because in
1991
he awarded a
knighthood
to my Dad. The title is, of course, as meaningless as Daly's own
sovereignty
.
