For a recreational activity to cause any degree of distress is simply unacceptable

Here are a few recreational activitieswhich cause distress:

• Any endurance sport - physical distress
• Any competitive activity - Mental strain, eg Losing.
• Creative writing - Frustration
• Creation of Art - Frustration plus emotional turmoil
• Playing bass - sore fingers plus all of the above.

All of these are undeniably leisure activities and they are - in my opinion - all the more recreational because of the distress they engender.

The idea of accomplishment is as nothing without the contrast of the pain that goes into achieving it. Anyone who honestly holds the opinion stated in the node title will never truly have any fun.
