Like most of Utada's songs, it is sung in Japanese with a few lines in English. Filipina singer Jessa Zaragoza recorded an English version of the song.

The lyrics are difficult to translate well (even though it is said that Utada originally wrote the song in English and translated it into Japanese), but the general idea is that a person's first love always stays with them, no matter how many times they fall in love again.
