| Ewan McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 and grew up in Crieff, Scotland, a small town on the edge of the Highlands. He got his interest in acting from his uncle, Denis Lawson, who played Wedge in Star Wars. When he was 16 his parents finally agreed to let him drop out of school to pursue acting. He attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Right out of drama school, he got the lead role in a short TV series called Lipstick on Your Collar. However, this was not the "big break" he expected; it took several more TV roles and lesser-known movies until he was particularly famous. It was probably Trainspotting that brought him to the next level of fame, and The Phantom Menace that showed him to the world (I know that's where I first saw him).
He is married to Eve Mavrakis and they have a daughter named Clara. They live in London, where he likes to ride a motorcycle around town. Other hobbies include golf and watching football. In a biography he claimed his worst faults are drinking, smoking, cursing, and stating his opinions without thinking first.
