One of the two student newspapers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While independent, the Cardinal is run out of Vilas Hall (home of UW's journalism department, among other things) and is primarily staffed by UW students. The other paper is the Badger Herald; the Cardinal has traditionally had a more liberal stance than the relatively conservative Herald. Then again, Madison being what it is, you never know.
