DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a steroid hormone secreted mainly by the adrenal cortex. It seems to play a large number of roles in the body, most of which are unknown. It is the "precursor" to testosterone and estrogen.

Soon after we hit our 20s, the levels of DHEA start to diminsh. Some studies show, however, that restoring DHEA to youthful levels can increase energy and vigor, boost the immune system, and lower the risk of cancer and heart attacks, but it can also introduce previously unseen mood swings.

As with any medication, consult your doctor before taking it.
