Cycle of sonnets written by Aleister Crowley, retelling a relationship between a teenage girl and an adult man, who fall in love, have various forms of advanced sex, get syphilis, and commit joint suicide. In order to get published (it's fairly explicit), and to indulge Crowley's penchant for the prankish, he included a forward by a fictitious minister, who lavishly footnotes the story with outraged moralizing. The poetry is good, the commentary hilarious. |
