Besides the meanings noted elsewhere in this node, chippy is an adjective used to refer to an aggressive and belligerent person who likes to fight; apparently this meaning is derived from the expression chip on your shoulder. Hockey matches which feature lots of blood might be referred to as "chippy games".
Chippy is also a slang term for prostitute or loose woman, and Roget's Thesaurus lists it as a synonym for libertine, along with words like dame, grisette, demimondaine, sapphist, and (my personal favourite) spiritual wife. Woo hoo!
