| The analog to The Bible (more specifically, the New Testament portions) in The Territories of Stephen King and Peter Straub's book The Talisman (yes, the same 'Territories' would be found in The Black House). Like other things that share existance between the two worlds, the two objects are not exactly the same. For example, the main character in The Book of Good Farming is named Jason. Another difference is in the quote "What does it profit a man to gain the world, if he should loose his only son?", which is a spin on Matthew 16:26 from the New Testament: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?". Just about everybody in The Territories has heard of The Book and most people quote from it, but few have ever seen a copy, due to the 'technologically challenged' state of The Territories. The line use most frequently from The Book is "God pounds all of His nails" (as in "God pound you!") |
