The hello world or possibly the lorem ipsum of conlanging, the Babel Text is a sort of all-purpose beginner's practice text for translation into a new language.

The text--Genesis 11:1-9--refers to the building of the Tower of Babel, and the subsequent scattering of mankind into many tribes and tongues. Thus it is a rather fitting exercise for the hobbyist creating new languages.
