E2 isn't made for art. The structure of E2 is based on labels (Node titles).
This assumes that there is only one reason for going to a node; you want more information on that node's subject. But sometimes you aren't looking for a certain thing. And if it isn't a certain thing, how do you find it's title?
Problem: One interested in original art cannot find it. And much of what is noded on E2 is art.
It's hard to find a good definition of art, but for this node I will use it to mean anything you type that will never be searched for by name. This includes poems, stories, life stories, and random thoughts. For example:
Art:
two dogs
a tiny poem i dreamed
in the shower, thinking
today I feel a little smaller
you really put the 'i' in juliet
an example of how the government can fuck you
comb topped beak bearing deep fried chicken head
There's a wide range. And at this point we may be dumping more are into the void than anything else. When was the last time you read a poem noded more than one day ago? Or a story? And no, you don't get to count one's you read because someone added a new writeup to the node.
If you are one of those brave people who look at old art nodes, surely you've noticed that it's not easy to hunt them down. If you want life stories you get E2 Culture nodes, if you want humor all you get is Simpsons quotes. Poetry gives out to inane comments on nothing in particular every other soft link.
There are metanodes-- Noders' Poetry, Everything Story Metanode, Humorous Writings of E2, The Everything Creative Writing Project, The Nodal Novels Metanode.
They list less than one percent of the art on E2. Much less. And they grow slowly, if at all.
The best suggestion I have is more metanodes. Find you favorite type of art and list all you can find of it. Metanode your own works (and /msg me to sub-metanode it into The Project project). This will help--some.
Another suggestion I can offer is to log everything. We have Dream Logs and Day Logs. How about Memory Logs? (Memory Log : First Kiss) Poetry Logs? Story Logs? It would make searching for this stuff much easier.
And finally, I suggest we ask other noders. That's you. What are you going to do about this?
