In a plain white envelope with few stamps and no return address came a book entitled 'A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius'. The handwriting on the envelope was firm and decisive without being forceful. An exhaustive search inside of the book revealed the following :

• Just behind the front cover, an Amtrak ticket, Springfield, MA to New York, NY, on 10 March 2000, (Evidence of a persistent rumor, called 'mass transit'; many neighbors discredit its existence) and a old sheet of paper with class notes over witchcraft on one side and a drawing, equally informed by Erte's art deco, Miro's surrealism, and urban graffiti. Underneath lies lines from Robert Burns.
• From the back cover : a 'got milk?' bumper sticker. After exhaustive Freudian analysis, this cigar was very dissappointing; it was just a cigar.
• From various pages starting at the midway point of the tome to the end : photocopied homemade stickers that bear hand-cut edges, icons apparently representing a 'Retina Soybean', and an advert for www.dieyetribe.com.
• About 50 pages into the book was a ticket, costing 25 simoleons in advance, for WRSI and Pearl Street's 4 April 1999 production of a concert by The Residents, at the Ballroom on 10 Pearl Street, Northampton, MA, showtime 8:30, doors 7:30.
• Fallen out from an undisclosed location, a scrap from a fortune cookie, bearing the legend 'The best prophet of the future is the past'.
