The twenty-seventh article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified May 7, 1992, by the vote of Michigan. Congress originally submitted it as part of the proposed Bill of Rights on September 25, 1789. The Amendment was not ratified together with the first ten Amendments, which became effective on December 15, 1791.

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

The Twenty-Seventh Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was ratified on May 7, 1992. It prohibits Congress from enacting a pay raise for itself without first having an intervening election.

That practice was already prohibited by federal law, so the amendment will likely have little effect.
