Hoo, boy. The right to trial by jury in suits at common law. Don't count on them to protect this one. Yes, Matilda, you have a right to a trial by jury, but if you don't demand it you'll be assumed to have waived it. (See Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 38(d).) Also, this one doesn't apply to the states (it's not a fundamental freedom), and most states don't provide for it. Too bad!

The seventh article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified effective December 15, 1791.

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
