Agrajag built a Cathedral of Hate in which to kill Arthur in, but made the mistake of bringing him there too early, before Arthur killed him for the last time. Thus, it was quite impossible for Agrajag to actually kill Arthur, though he did try. Arthur inadvertently kills Agrajag in the process.

This is actually a pretty interesting paradox, by the way. How can you bring someone someplace to kill him if he has already killed you? (Not to mention countless of times?). And what would have happened if Agrajag actually killed Arthur Dent before Arthur killed him for the last time?
