UNIX place in the filestructure where devices are generally found. See /dev/null and /dev/god.

As of the 2.6.0 Linux Kernel devfs (which is responsible for maintaining /dev) is now considered obsolete and moved away from kernel space. For the 2.7.0 release of the kernel the powers that be will recommend that devfs be removed from the kernel.

A userland daemon called udev now takes care of /dev.
