My son cozmodiar was breastfed (solely) from birth until about three and a half years. He never received a bottle until he was a little over a year old, and contracted some sort of lower GI tract bug which gave him severe diarrhea and his pediatrician suggested the breast be supplemented with pedialite. I agreed and gave him his first bottle, which he removed from his mouth, gave the evil eye and tossed aside, which amused me immensely. I just stuck the tit in his mouth and drank more liquids.

For a variation on the recipe above, try the following:

Use a can of cream of celery soup instead of the mushroom.
Add 1-2 tsp. minced, fresh garlic
Add approximately 1/2 C. grated Swiss cheese (or more)
Instead of the soy sauce, add 1 T. Worchestershire sauce
Follow the recipe for mixing and baking.

I would suggest that you start early - 2-3 months. Short excerpts. Babies are comforted by listening to your voice and very rapidly grasp the connection between the position on your lap, books, visual cues, vocal cues, etc. Continue reading to your child as long as she/he will let you do so. My son and I had bedtime reading until he was 9 yrs. old or so when he wanted to continue his bedtime reading on his own.

Once my son had a fair handle on reading around age 5,(he was an early reader at 4) when he wanted to see a movie, whether on the big or small screen, I would ask that he read the book first if it existed. Then we would see the movie and then we would discuss both after the movie viewing. Because we never had cable tv, movie viewing was special in our family, but reading was a daily event and still is (my son is now 19).

My book club, which meets once a month, decided to meet on Halloween. We had decided that in addition to giving out candy, we would also give out BOOKS. Several people brought kid's books they'd purchased half-price. Several of us cleared off unwanted tomes from our bookshelves.

The first bunch of kids who arrived at the door after we began looked at the basket full of candy and books. We asked them about their costumes, and told them we were giving books. The two kids got excited, made their book choices, and vamoosed down the driveway, eshewing the candy. We gave some kids books to bring to their parents, waiting at the end of the driveway. Later on, when the older (young teen) trick-or-treaters came, and we gave them a handful of candy and a book, they thought we were a tad strange, but one guy said "OK, I need to read a book."

Really excellent Irish dancers can go all the way up on the tip of their big toe. The position cannot be held as long as a dancer in pointe shoes as Irish dancers do it in "soft shoes," also known as ghillies, which are shoes of very soft leather (ballet slippers that lace up). I have seen it done in bare feet as well.
