Bedsore (thing)

A focus of successive, sustained pressure on a part of the body creates a bedsore. As the phenomenon, known as decubitus uclers, was observed in patients that are bed-ridden, the term bedsore was obvious. The actual result is much more gruesome than a sore, if left untreated. The skin actually deteriorates to the point of exposing underlying tissue, and if left unchecked, often prove fatal.

Malnutrition and dehydration speed the process, so the elderly unable to afford good health care/nursing homes are those most affected, followed by patients in comas and other debilitating conditions.

To prevent them, the patient must be sure to shift their position often, and use pillows to spread the pressure. Exercise (in the case of non-coma patients) greatly reduces the chance of bedsores. The application of certain lotions will keep the skin soft and supple, further preventing the condition from developing.

    Dear Everything2,

    I am writing on behalf of my good friend, the word 'Die.' He's a word you see, so he can't type. He hopes to one day obtain the kind of autonomy that Dai-un had, but for now I'll have to type for him. My friend is very disturbed, and even somewhat hurt over the fact that people are always so mad at him, and insist on viewing him as something bad. You see, according to him, an acceptance of death is nothing other than an affirmation of life. He is also tired of being associated with Windows crashing. April Trolls Day (idea)

Well, I, for one, thought that last night was hilarious. Many of you may not give a whit, but hey; you're welcome to your opinion. I think the reason so many people are offended is because they fell for it. Plain and simple. I mean, come on. There are already a few writeups in this node that express something akin to moral outrage, and have stated that, after last nights debauchery, they will have a snide retort for the gods/editors when we're told to act responsibly.

Paros (place)

Paros is correclty known as the Grand Central Station of the Aegean. Most boats stop here and you can make connections to the Dodecanese and even Samos. The town is full of foreigners and bars and also internet cafes, which is a plus. Head for the smaller villages or Antiparos if it is quiet you seek. If you like to party then Parakia and Naoussa will suit you just fine. The tiny idealic fishing village of Naousa is so crowded in the summer that you have to stand in line to walk past the cafes that surround the port but it's a great scene and worth going for Mykonos-like action without Mykonos prices. The beaches of Paros, though popular, are also quite nice, and Paros is known as the wind-surfing capital of Greece. Plenty of camping too. The ferry trip is about 6 hours from Athens…

Naxos (place)

Considered by many to be another overlooked gem in the Aegean, Naxos is big, green and may have the best beaches in Greece. It's close to the popular islands Mykonos, Ios, Paros and Santorini with frequent ferry connections. It has a lively harbor town with restaurants, cafes, clubs and shops. Rent a car, or even better, a motorscooter (papaki) and see the whole island. The valleys and ridges are beautiful and lush, particularly the area known as Tragaia, so hikers will have a ball. The best beach they say is at Plaka with other nice ones at Agios Yorgos, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla, and Kastraki, any of which would be the prized beach on any other island.
