Kingdom of the Outlands (place)

The Kingdom of the Outlands (aka The Outlands) is, in the Society for Creative Anachronism, the twelfth oldest kingdom in the Known World. The kingdom is bounded on the west by Atenveldt and Artemesia, on the north again by Artemesia, on the east by the Midrealm, Calontir, and Ansteorra, and to the south by Argonia, which is populated by no SCA group (and to which we have the rightful claim, anyway).

In modern terms, it comprises the states of New Mexico, most of Colorado, parts of Wyoming, parts of Nebraska, and the Elspeth and Hudson counties of Texas. The Outlands also has a recognized claim to the lands south, namely Central and South America, known as Argonia, although there are currently no active groups there.

The Kingdom of the Middle (aka The Midrealm, The Middle Kingdom) is the third oldest kingdom in the SCA. They became a kingdom in 1969. It is bounded on the west by Artemesia, on the west and north by An Tir, on the east by the East and Aethelmearc, the southeast by Atlantia, the south by Meridies, and the southwest by Calontir.

In modern terms, it comprises the (USA) states of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and a tiny bit of Iowa, and the (Canadian) province of Manitoba.

In these Current Middle Ages, the Kingdom of the Outlands is made up of¹:

The Known World (place)

"The Known World" is another way of saying "The world, as it exists within the SCA." So, in The Known World, there aren't countries (like Canada, Zimbabwe, or China) but kingdoms (like Trimaris, the Midrealm, and Ealdormere).

Of course, some places, not having active groups, aren't yet really part of the Known World. For example, I am not aware of any active groups within Mexico or South America¹. So, I guess calling it "Known" is pretty reasonable. :grin:
