However, one of my writeups contains a colon in the title. This causes node backup to generate a file with what Windows regards as an invalid filename; colons are not allowed.

The following characters are considered invalid by Windows:

\ / : * ? " < > |

My understanding is that this is a superset of the characters forbidden by Mac OSX and Linux.

Additionally, OSX has the restriction that a file may not begin with a "." character.

Introduction

Brought to you by Fantasy Flight Games: Battlestar Galactica! The board game of the TV series! Three to six players collaborate to try to reach Earth before the rag-tag fleet runs out of resources. However, hidden amongst the players is at least one evil Cylon, secretly working to destroy the fleet.

In brief

The game is based on the modern TV series. (Once upon a time there was a game based on the 70s series - I haven't played it, but it sounds rubbish). You get a nice board, with nifty "resource dials" to keep track of the fleet's dwindling fuel, food, and so on. Central on the board is the Galactica herself, and in the surrounding areas, tiny plastic models of human and Cylon starfighters battle over the fleet. Various decks of cards represent each player's ability to influence events in different categories such as Politics or Engineering.

Before the game starts, and again half-way through, "loyalty cards" are…

The theatre quest returns for 2009!

Write a sixty second play by 8th May. The best entries will be performed on stage, in front of a paying audience.

Details

Each year, the Gone in Sixty Seconds project requests submissions from writers anywhere and everywhere. Two venues, one in the USA, and one in the UK, each select 50 plays, and they are performed on stage, in front of a real audience, by a mixture of drama students and semi-professional actors. Every year, everything2 members submit their plays, and so far each year has seen a selection of everything2 submissions chosen to be performed.

This year, the American show will be performed at The New Workshop Theatre, Brooklyn College, and the UK show will be at The Viaduct Theatre, Halifax.

Hello everyone. It's wonderful that so many of you were able to make your way to darkest Wales to be with us today, it means a great deal to us to have you all here. I also want to thank you for all the lovely presents – we're going to need a second kitchen to put them in.

I'm going to be doing a lot of thank-yous. I'll start at the beginning – thank you, Mum and Dad, for raising me to be the kind of person whom Hannah would fall in love with. Amongst a great many other things, my parents taught me that every morning, you should make a cup of tea for the woman you love. I've learned that with Hannah, any given problem can be solved with either a hug or a cup of tea. As long as we can afford to buy tea, I think we'll be okay.

I'm very grateful to Hannah's family for making me feel so welcome. My first ever Christmas away from my own family was in Chester and it was wonderful to be so warmly accepted, and indeed constantly plied with delicious food.

I staggered out of the whistling, vicious wind into the outpost's antechamber. Leaning heavily against the wall, I used my good arm to punch the button to cycle the lock. With a hydraulic hiss, the outer door closed behind me.

The intercom monitor by the door flickered to life. "Jackson?"

"Sure, it's me. Meet me in the infirmary, I'm injured." I gestured towards my bleeding arm. The monitor flicked off, and the inner door opened with a slight sigh of warm air. Nursing my arm, I made my way through to the unit's modest sickbay.

The doctor and the commander were already there. The commander, drawn and tense, leapt to his feet as soon as I arrived. "What happened, Jackson? Did you damage it? What does it look like?" The doctor gently pushed him aside to get a look at my injury. "Give him a second, Commander Burns, the man is hurt." He rolled back the sleeve to get a good look. "…

Getting the most out of BookMooch

BookMooch is a book-trading website. See jessicapierce's writeup above for a description of how it works. In this writeup, I'm going to share my tips for getting the most out of BookMooch.

Use your wishlist

As a new BookMooch user, you may quickly find that none of the books that you want are actually available. This is pretty much the normal state of affairs. There is high demand and limited, sporadic supply. When someone adds a book to their inventory, it is quickly snapped up.

To ensure that you're notified when a book you want becomes available, you need to populate your wishlist. This is a list of books that you are interested in mooching. When someone lists a book, BookMooch looks up all the people who have that book on their wishlist, picks one of them at random, and e-mails them to let them know it's available. After a few hours, if the book is not yet mooched, another user is e-mailed them, and so on.

You can't…
