Values Here (Music: Brian Baker, Lyrics: Baker, Dave Smalley)

By Dag Nasty

This song is the first song on Dag Nasty's debut album Can I Say. It starts off with the typical Dag sound of fast bass guitar but manages to raise itself above the usual punk "I'm going to sing so fast no one can understand me" by having lyrics which are not only audible but also well written. Can I Say as a whole is an album about self confidence, and this song starts off that feeling well. Lines such as "Fear of failure...problem I've never had" make it pretty obvious what Dave is getting at.

This song is a great start to the album, and while not quite up to the standard of Circles, it's still excellent. The song can be found on both the original and the 2002 reissue of the album Can I Say.

What'd you say?
When I said we'll be here through tomorrow
In my heart and in my head!
Fear of failure
Fear of reprimand
Two big problems
I've never had
I never doubted what I had inside...what I have inside!

Values here in my heart
And we'll be here through tomorrow
Every day's a brand new start
Fear of failure
Fear of reprimand
Two big problems I've never had
I never doubted what I had inside...what I have inside!

Fear of failure
Fear of reprimand
Two big problems I've never had
I never doubted what I had inside...what I have inside!
