The bridge of a Supernova-class starship (or whatever they call their easily-explodable ships) is easily the most important region. It is therefore imperative to preserve maximum crew functionality (MCF), while minimizing the probability of bridge crew being hit.
To this end, the following steps should be taken:
- Starship personnel can experience severe jolting during combat or poor flight conditions. This can cause incapacitating injuries (e.g. broken limbs), as well as more serious wounds. It is therefore imperative that all critical personnel on the bridge, upon whom combat activities depend (e.g. weapons officer) shall be standing at all times. Previously, it was thought that lower positions (e.g. seated, leaning back) were safer, due to the misguided notion that "you can't fall off the floor". Modern physics proves, of course, that this is not the case. Unfortunately, modern starship design still causes close to 100% incapacitated personnel after even the slightest jolting.
- The bridge is the command center for the starship. It is therefore imperative to deny enemy forces access to the bridge. However, to allow more impressive Admirality visits, all bridges shall be equipped with a fully-functional bidirectional transporter in close proximity. No guards shall be posted at the transporter, under any circumstances; there shall also be no weaponry of any sort allowed within 50 metres of the bridge transporter.
- All ships within visual range shall be displayed right side up at all times. In particular, multiple ships within visual range, flying at disparate angles, shall be forbidden at all times. This regulation shall apply equally to allied and enemy starships alike.
